Award 2018 - Ukrainian Society for Neuroscience

Award 2018

Award 2018

The eighth ceremony to present Kostyuk Award, which is supported by Kostyuk Fund of Shevchenko Scientific Society in the USA was carried out on Thursday, December 20, 2018. This year, the jury of Kostyuk Fund selected three finalists who gave short talks during the ceremony. Anna Dumanskaya, who works at Bogomolets Institute of Physiology (Kyiv, Ukraine), investigates electrical signals in the rat retina. She’s created in a Petri dish a model of the neural network responsible for processing visual information. Volodymyr Krotov from the same Institute examined the work of nerve cells in the almost inaccessible inner cell layer of the spinal cord. Such a detailed study of these cells was conducted for the first time in the world. Alexander Savitsky of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics spoke about a computer-based computer system that he created that allows him to model proteins and their conformational modifications induced by genetic mutations.

Vladimir Krotov from the Department of Molecular Biophysics at the Institute of Physiology became the winner of this year Kostyuk Award. In addition to his commemorative diploma, he received a cash award. Organizers from Shevchenko Scientific Society and Kostyuk Foundation hope that rising support via Kostyuk Fund will allow them to extend assistance to Ukrainian young scientists.
